Africa Youth Climate Assembly (AYCA) is the official platform for African youth appointed by the Africa Climate Summit to engage in sustainable climate actions.
The assembly strives to unite and amplify the voices of African youth and children, providing them with a platform and motivation to showcase climate change solutions in Africa. It brings together young leaders, activists, and innovators from all parts of Africa to allow easy collaboration amongst the young climate champions and to educate and help them drive towards sustainable climate action.
Paul Kaluki, AYCA Innovation Lead is thrilled to affirm the benefits and achievements that will be made by the African Youth Assembly highlighting that the assembly will create a space for the young African youth and children where they can come together as climate innovators to find solutions towards combating climate change.
“AYCA acknowledges the diverse challenges and opportunities that different regions face and will bring together young leaders, activists, innovators, and thinkers from all corners of Africa, creating a space for collaboration, education, and action,” Kaluki stated.
Kaluki also expressed that the assembly will work towards a sustainable future where the continent works towards leading other continents toward sustainable climate.
“By nurturing the passions and ideas of Africa’s youth, the assembly aims to plant the seeds for a sustainable future, where the continent leads the way in combating climate change.” The Innovation lead added.
Driven by four main objectives, the youth assembly aims to provide a platform for African Youth and children to raise their voices, share experiences, and contribute their unique perspectives to the global discourse on climate change.
Secondly, the assembly visions foster the exchange of innovative ideas, strategies, and solutions, empowering participants to address climate challenges at local, national, and international levels.
Thirdly, the Africa Youth Climate Assembly(AYCA) will spotlight impactful projects and initiatives led by youth and children highlighting their contributions to sustainable development and environmental protection.
Lastly, the assembly aims to influence policy by advocating for effective climate policies that prioritize the needs and aspirations of African communities.
AYCA is set to host its first assembly in Kenya from the 1st of September to the 3rd with the theme Africa-led Solutions to Global Challenges. The three-day summit will be graced by the attendance of President Dr. William Ruto who will flag off the summit.
In attendance will be the African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat, African Development Bank President Akinwumi A. Adesina, and African Union Youth Envoy Chido Mpemba.
The Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Hon. Soipan Tuya together with Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Sports and Art, Hon. Ababu Namwamba will make opening speeches for the AYCA inaugural summit.
