As the doors open for the TED Countdown Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, the event welcomes over 600 attendees from 69 countries, nearly half from Africa, representing a diverse mix of policymakers, scientists, entrepreneurs, community leaders, artists, and youth.
The convention focuses on accelerating ideas and solutions that can move the world closer to a zero-carbon future that is cleaner, healthier, and more equitable for all.
Nairobi was chosen to host this renowned TED event due to its climate leadership and a wealth of locally grounded solutions that offer global inspiration.
The Kenyan capital not only embodies innovation and resilience but also boasts one of the greenest energy grids in the world, with 90% of its electricity sourced from renewables, half of that from geothermal power, and a rising generation of changemakers, with 70% of Kenya’s population under the age of 30.
The TED Countdown Summit embraces diversity among its attendees to catalyze climate action that is inclusive, relevant, and globally scalable. It aims to foster courageous conversations and cross-sector collaborations designed to bridge divides and amplify perspectives often underrepresented in climate discussions.
With sustainability at its core, the summit features discussions on critical sectors ranging from nature restoration to sustainable food systems, circular economy, and clean energy. The vision is to approach sustainability as an interconnected ecosystem, generating holistic solutions that deliver impact across multiple dimensions of climate resilience.

A conversation on sustainability in the African context must be rooted in indigenous knowledge and practices, complemented by science to pioneer climate solutions that are relatable and practical.
Africa’s adaptability, creativity, and demographic momentum uniquely position it to lead the world toward a more sustainable and inclusive future.
As such, the summit will spotlight grassroots leaders, community innovators, and entrepreneurs advancing clean energy, sustainable agriculture, electric transport, and other critical sectors.
According to Logan McClure Davda, Head of Impact TED Countdown Summit, by incorporating insights from local partners, global thought leaders, and grassroots organizers, the TED Countdown is elevating a climate agenda grounded in empathy, courageous dialogue, and collective action.
The Summit also highlights the importance of coalitions that enable scalable, context-aware climate action. Its programming includes collaborative workshops, cross-sector partnerships, and storytelling that unites diverse voices.
Partnerships with organizations like DocuBox, Kairos Futura, and Shujaaz Inc. demonstrate how local-global collaborations can foster deeper understanding, trust, and shared ownership of climate solutions.
The TED Countdown Summit aims to support community-led initiatives in Nairobi through Community Climate Grants, strengthening connections made at the summit that could lead to new partnerships, collaborations, and potential funding to advance key climate efforts.

Over 35 TED Talks will be recorded during the summit, propelling the ideas and solutions of featured leaders onto the global stage and helping shift the narrative on climate. Additionally, field-based insights from 15 immersive “Quests” and 25 workshops will shape the work of participating climate leaders, feeding directly into global solution-building efforts.
“With these outcomes, the TED Countdown Summit looks forward to discussions that will shape global climate narratives, advance systems change, and accelerate the deployment of promising climate solutions worldwide,” said Logan.
