The IGAD Climate Predictions and Applications Center(ICPAC) has shared the forecast that indicates what to expect in the weather outlook for parts of East Africa for the last week of October 2025.

The forecast reveals that many areas are likely to see more rain than usual within the greater Horn of Africa region. These areas include central and western South Sudan, southwestern Ethiopia, northern Somalia, parts of western Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi.

Whereas for other places they will get very heavy rain, especially the northern Somalia, and some parts of western South Sudan, southwestern Ethiopia, and western Kenya. In northern Somalia, the expected rain is among the heaviest ever recorded.

The forecast indicates that due to the heavy rain, there is a high risk of flooding in certain areas. These areas may include northern Somalia, central southern Ethiopia, western Rwanda, parts of western South Sudan, and some areas in central Kenya.

Notably, other areas are expected to receive less rain than usual, including central and eastern Kenya, western Uganda, and most of Tanzania.

Temperatures: Warmer Than Normal

Most of the Greater Horn of Africa region has been warmer than average for this time of year, and the trend is set to continue as the year approaches its last two months.

The hottest temperatures, above 32°C, are expected in the Afar region of Ethiopia. The highest levels of heat stress are expected in northern South Sudan and the Afar region of Ethiopia.

A few small areas, like parts of western and southeastern South Sudan, may be slightly cooler than average; hence, residents are urged to be cautious and place safety first by dressing warmer and staying away from rain.

In summary, the region should prepare for a mix of very heavy rain with a risk of flooding in some countries, while generally experiencing warmer temperatures.
